Hi Im trying my best to keep to my promise of an Aquarion rev and it might seem a bit rushed because it's 29 minutes to 1 am, plus my mom will drop in any moment to
spy check on me whether or not I'm doing my work, so yeah... (not that people reads anyway)
Sousei no Aquarion review(This is going to be a really bad summary because I dont understand what the show's about in details, i'll just explain based on my understanding.):
Apollo joined an organisation Deava (in case you're wondering I got the name from Wikipedia, hurray for advanced technologies.) to try to rescue his friend back from the evil clutches of Shadow Angels. Then there's Silvia, who is the incarnation of the love of Apollonius, Celiane. You see, Apollonius was one of those "people" with wings, while Celiane is a mere human. In an attempt to save his beloved Celiane, he tore off his wings to protect her. Ok, fast forward a few thousand years in front. Then there's a series of battles between Shadow Angels and the Aquarion evil robot fighting machines! But over time Silvia learns that it is Apollo (whom, btw she hates) who is Apollonius. And after both have learnt the truth will they start fighting the bad guys.At first this anime seemed to be like a bad clone of Evangelion. Well, the primary idea behind it is the same - machines fighting monsters called Angels. But this anime does not have a religious concept behind it like Evangelion does, it revolves more around legends. While it is making an effort to personify the characters through the one-story-per-episode style in most of the series, there are still room for improvement. The attacks from the machines are, sad to say, cliche. With names like "Unlimited Punch" and "The Power of Unluckiness" (direct ranslations form chinese, original names: "wu xian quan"; "bu xing zhi li liang") it is not doing very well in the actions department. Also, it delivery of the plot is poor. But please don't take it that it really is the anime itself, actually I really suspect it's the chinese dubbing that's the cause of all these. :P And since we're on the subject of chinese dubbing, I shall be unprofessional and rant abit: The constant echoes are driving me crazy!! In the 20 minutes of the show, at least 10 is spent in rooms, with
echoes.
But this Anime isn't as bad as it seemed at first (because I mentioned its bad points first). There are still hope for this!! (ok, the drowsiness is creeping in...
BAD.) For one it's OST are well executed. The volume of the music is just nice, not soft but not very loud either. And although there's this constant use of the OP at the battles nearing the end of the episode, it never fails to make draw out that ...
Woah, so cool! reaction from me. (because I like the song :3) Another plus side is its art. I have no need to describe the wonder of the detailed art because you guys can just do your part and stare at the picture up there. However the faces looks a bit distorted sometimes, but the beautiful still art (what i call unanimated drwings - live with it!) made up for it. And how can I forget the humour? With such detailed art one wouldnt expect humour to come along with it, but the good news is that It. Has. Humour. One quoted scene:
Silvia: You're still a kid who doesnt grow up.
Apollo: Who say's I'm a kid? For your information I have adult hair.
Silvia: (blushes and covers eye)
Apollo: (shows off his armpit hair)See what I mean?
Although the bad points weigh more than the pros, somehow I just don't
not like it. I actually enjoyed watching it. So people dont be put off by the technical sides. Think right minded, people, right minded!
No character profiles this time because both of 'rents are behind and thinking I'm reciting all my physics on this posting space *smiles*
Bye :)
rainy days never stay, 9:28 am.
Woah.
It's been a hundred years since I posted. (and during that time I've saved my Taichou friend from being arrested by the SS and disappeared for a hundred years and lived as a neko)
But due the constant
naggings reminders from my dear friend Megan and Fiona, i shall post again with a...
FMA REVIEW!!!
summary (may contain spoilers):
Edward and Alphonse Elric are brothers who are gifted in the art of Alchemy, a talent inherited from their father, also an alchemist but seemed to MIA ever since he left when they were young. They lived with their mother in peace until their mother died of illness/missing her husband too much. The brothers heard about an alchemy method that brings human back to live. after years of research, the brothers decided to give it a try. But the experiment failed miserably, taking away Al's soul and Edward's right arm and left leg. So the brothers embarked on an adventure to find the mysterious and much-sought-after Philosopher's Stone which might regain their normal bodies back. In the process they are dragged into war politics of the century! (geez whats up with the cheesy ending...)This anime (fullname: Fullmetal Alchemist) is one of the best I've ever watched. There's real emotions, character growth and of course,
action. :) Ed and Al's feelings and maturity throughout the journey (this anime spans from when they were 6 and 4 to 15 and 14), and yet still retaining some of their original characteristics, like Ed's stubborness and Al's caringness. Technical stuff wise, animation is, on a scale of 1 to 10, a 7.5. (nothing beats the animation in Get Backers for me for some reason) The OSTs were said to have won an award and praised for its smooth blending into the anime (i.e., according to the Zan Dictionary, not very loud and not very obvious but still able to make us feel something), but I am able to even recognise the soundtracks. (actually its because I just have this weird habit of paying attention to OSTs) So putting in the factor of my observantness, the OSTs would be highly effective :) I have not seen any distinct style theme in the show as yet, but i would say the colour scheme slants a bit to the more royal side.
and introducing a new segment in my reviews, I am going to imitate wikipedia and put character introduction.
this is to lengthen my post as well!Edward Elricprotagonist of the story. He is a talented alchemist with a stubborn attitude, termed as the Fullmetal Alchemist, the 15 year old gets extremely aggitated when being called a chibi. He cares very much for his brother Alphonse and seems to have a crush on Wenli... and he hates his father: for abandoning them (?) and esp so when his mother's last wish for him to create a bouquet for her because it reminds her of his father.
Alphonse Elricnicknamed Al by Edward, he is often mistaken for the Fullmetal Alchemist because of his armour. He lost his body in the Human Alchemy experiment, and his soul is sealed inside the armour by his brother. A kind and caring young boy but is extremely agile when it comes to hand-to-hand combats. (Edward has never won a fight against him)
Winry RockbellEd and Al's childhood friend, she is a sucker for machine parts. She helped to build Ed's automail (as a substitute for his lost limbs). A strong headed woman but cares deeply about her friends. Her parents died saving people during a war. She lives with her grandmother Pinako.
Roy MustangEdward's direct superior officer. A colonel. Wants to be the Fuhrer of Amestris. The first rule he's gonna make is to make all the girls wear miniskirts. called the Flame Alchemist. Very hot. :)
ScarAn Ishvalan whose right arm actually belongs to his brother. His brother performed Alchemy considered forbidden by Ishvalan religions. He also tried Human Alchemy, which, too, failed and left him tatooed all over his body. One time Scar's arm was blown off and his brother sewed his right arm onto Scar's body. Now he uses the excuse of being a messenger of the Ishvalan god (whatever you call it) to kill Alchemists, whom he deeply hates. Scar is not his real name, his real name is never revealed. He just has this unbelievably symmetric X shaped scar on his face. see?
